Graduate ImageMartha Carpenter led a varied and fulfilling life. She traveled extensively, worked as an artist and served in World War II. Through her life experiences, Martha developed a deep commitment to giving back that she demonstrated to her family, her community and her country. She gave back here at Pine Street Inn with a bequest to endow education and training opportunities for men and women who are rebuilding their lives.

Martha was generous to many, including her nieces and nephews—especially in support of their educational pursuits. She was generous to her country through her service in the U.S. Naval Reserves (WAVES) as Yeoman Second Class. Her generosity to Pine Street Inn manifested itself through a bequest.

While we are not exactly sure why Martha named Pine Street as one of a handful of beneficiaries of her significant estate, we do know that her decision to create a lasting legacy in recognition of the critical role education and training play in a self-sustaining life will help hundreds going forward.

Every year, Pine Street's job training programs help approximately 600 men and women gain the skills and training they need to re-enter the workforce. Thanks to Martha, we can ensure that this opportunity is always available for our guests and tenants.
